WoW.com meets Michele Boyd of The Guild at E3

World of Warcraft isn’t actually at this year’s E3 — Activision Blizzard has a great big booth with lots of cool games in it, but none of them are Blizzard’s. We guess they’re saving everything for the big event at BlizzCon. But we still found someone cool to meet on the floor — The Guild’s Michele Boyd (you can see her here in the last Season 2 episode) was working on the show floor for THQ, and was kind enough to stop by and talk to me before she went off to actually, you know, see some videogames (we heard there’s some here, but we’ve been too busy writing about all the cool stuff we’re seeing on Joystiq and Massively).

As you can see above, she’s hosting a series on Discovery Channel (and she’s got the science chops to do it), she’s currently rocking an Enhancement Shaman (in Outland, not Northrend — what can I say, I was confused by her awesomeness), and she’s got some good thoughts on what’s up in the next season of The Guild. Big thanks again to her for chatting with us, enjoy the video!

Christie Golden signing Saturday in Long Island

Christie Golden (who, you’ll probably remember, wrote Arthas, the book our guys loved so much) will be signing copies of that book at a bookstore called the Book Revue in Huntington, NY this Saturday at 7pm. In a quick interview with Newsday there, she also talks about both her background in fantasy and sci-fi (she remembers the days when sci-fi and fantasy were seen as silly diversions rather than premises for multi-million dollar movies and videogames, as do most of us older nerds, probably) and her experience with WoW. She says that having the chance to jump in and virtually visit the actual setting of her books is a real plus when doing research — if she has a question about the layout of Stormwind, she can go over to that city and check it out herself.

If you’re in or near Long Island and are a Christie Golden fan or are looking for something Warcraft-y and fun to do on Saturday, there you go. She’s got more information on her blog about the signing (looks like she’ll be reading as well). If you do go, let us know how it went.

The Colosseum: Merlizzel

The Colosseum takes us inside the world of the Gladiator (Brutal, Vengeful, Merciless, and otherwise), to interview some of the top Arena fighters in the battlegroups. Our goal is to bring a better understanding of the strategy, makeup, and work that goes into dueling it out for fame, fortune, and Netherdrakes.

This is not Merlizzel’s first season in the Arena. In fact, during Season 5, this Discipline Priest was frustrated with his inability to achieve Gladiator.

Now, however, he’s placed 11th place in his battlegroup for 2v2, 38th in his battlegroup for 3v3, and 3rd place in his battlegroup for 5v5. Clearly, the changes of 3.1 have had an astounding difference for Merlizzel.

Since Merlizzel’s enjoying a graduation this weekend, he was only able to answer similar questions to the basic package we ask all Arena fighters. However, Merlizzel definitely spent a lot of time expounding about specific tactics he and his partner use in the Arena. Check out what he had to say after the cut.
